What You Say, What I Say

Human beings are flesh and blood

They splash their boots through the rain and mud

They learn how to read and write

They kiss their mamas goodnight

They grow up and play with friends, they have fun

But now

There is an obvious danger of their lives being taken away by a gun

You say that a gun is a form of self defense

But no

I say a gun is a direct offense

A direct offense against humanity

But a man overcome with complete irritable insanity

So swift and so quick

A child wouldn't have time to decide what shoes to pick

You place a gun on the table

You step back, look up to me and say its not doing anything right?

It's completely stable

I place a single cigarette right next to the gun

I say do you know how many people find this little piece of paper fun?

By itself its harmless, but the moment it touches human skin

It has the power to turn your lungs into tin?

A slow and painful death

But with a gun it's quick when the victim takes their last breath

I saw once upon a time a couple went to a show in Las Vegas, and a boy went to school to give his valentines day gift to his girlfriend, and a family went to a festival to enjoy the last days of summer

Do you know what happened?

One person walked in and said

“bummer”

People aren't even safe in the house of the Lord

This is just a price we can't afford

Never before and not anymore

You start but I stop you, I'm not done

I say you don't know the feelings of losing a child

You know none

Or going to school wondering if this will be your last day

And every morning before you leave you need to pray

You don't know the pain hundreds of families have gone through

You don't know how scared a mother feels when her child isnt buy her side, her heart practically jumps over the moon.

You don't know the paranoia that runs in their veins

You wouldn't be able to tell if your still sane

Do you know what a black man thinks or feels when he sees a cop with a gun

Do you know the power a cop feels when that piece of metal is in his hands and he sees a man run?

I say I don’t

I never felt the feeling, but I can imagine it

I don't know what a mother feels, but I can see her

Can you?

I can see her in my minds eye clutching her stomach where her child used to rest

I can see the father clenching his jaw, a drunken mess

For so long he tried to stay strong

When we all know, he isn't strong, that's a lie

I can almost feel the lump in her through and the heat in her eyes

Seeing her sitting still, paralyzed

I can see the mother with her lips quivering

With her body in a constant state of shivering

Even when it isn't cold

She isn't the one to be told

I can hear the loud sobs bouncing off every inch of the walls and countertops

Wishing that the world would just, would just stop

I mean how many more lives does it take to get it though to your head

How many more words can I say for it to finally be said

Please, please tell me because I'm generally curious

All of this hate I see, it's-its making me furious.

Seriously how many more words will this take

Because a gun isn't just a gun

A gun isn't for fun

A gun is hate.
