What's the harm in trying?

Dear Future Self,

As a child, your dreams were endless.

You envisioned yourself as a force that would take over the world.

You wanted to be an International Spy who doubled as the best soccer player of all time.

You knew your dreams were big,

But never could a dream be too big.

At least that was what you thought.

Once the adults that you so longed to be began laughing at your goals,

they turned into a joke.

A joke that you were forced to laugh at too.

Your motivation diminished as you grew into a teenager.

After all, your drive lied within your dreams.

The world began to grey as it revealed its true nature.

Adults don’t really achieve their goals.

There is no perfect place, or job, or house, or relationship.

Life is about settling.

Settling for the best out of the worst.

But there are people that live their dreams.

I've seen it before, once or twice.

So maybe, just maybe,

Our dreams are worth chasing.

Mabe you can find true happiness,

Within yourself and the world.

Maybe you'll fall flat on your face,

Realizing that those adults so long ago, knew exactly what they were talking about.

But what's the harm in trying?

Future Self,

I hope you tried.

I hope you gave everything you had.

I hope you reached your goals

And found happiness along the way.

I hope you laughed in the face of anyone who doubted you.

Most of all, I hope that you continue to dream big

And inspire others to do the same.

Love,

Your Past Self
