What's Inside

Me,

A girl of 17

With soft brown hair

And ever changing eyes

Framed in long curly lashes

Black as night

A brilliant smile hiding whats inside

Me,

A girl of 17

Struggling with constant battles

Painful obstacles

Broken hearts and loss of love

Skinny body and poking bones

Anxiety attacks and silent phones

Me,

A girl of 17

Smiling for the world

Filled with bubbles and warmth

Hugs and smiles all around

Laughter the most desired sound

Looking for love once already lost

Me,

A girl of 17

Juggling all grades

Trying to please her mother

Cleaning and starving

Stressing for approval

Desperately needing that smile

Me,

A girl of 17

Living so many different personas

Making pleasure and approval for all

Yet disappointment still darkens the mind

My heart beats in its cold cage of ribs

Locked away so as not to be hurt ever again

Me,

A girl of 17

Wanting to belong and feel loved

Searching for a place in the harsh world

Dying for chances of opportunity

Wanting to shine but still afraid

Drawing my life and visions thirsting for the only real praise

Me,

A girl of 17

Just like an other

A teenager looking and searching

Walking and sometimes running down our life's path

Taking turns and swerves and jumps, leaps even

And we all end up where we're supposed to go

So I relax and know

I hope and pray

God has a place for me

And I need to focus on me, myself and I

I just need to see what I think of me

And I think I can do this life living thing

I see myself as a successor and a survivor
