What's it like to fly?

What's it like to fly?
To be able to soar through the sky.
Like a bird flying home to feed
Or a cloud flowing through the breeze.

Would it be like becoming a superhero?
Flying around defeating people like Nero.
Lifting cars and throwing rocks.
Stopping bullets and breaking through blocks.

Would it be like floating in space?
Making poses and eating with grace.
Looking down on Earth from far away.
Finding that you want to stay.

Would it be like a giant airplane?
Sitting back and waiting to be entertained.
Staring out the window and eating snacks.
Excited to leave and unpack.

What is it like to get to fly?
Is it like having to say goodbye?
Flying and wishing you won't cry.
As you soar through the sky.
Flying through the rain to go home and dry.
Hiding your sorrow from your parents' eye.
Praying that he won't fly high.
Because it's too much to intensify.
Will he leave and not return till July?
Or never and really mortify.
But I'll go and objectify
If he indeed goes and will die.

But here I wait and think
And for hours on end never blink.
To take my mind off of him
While he's trying to fight for a whim.
I sit here while time passes by
To think about what it's like to fly.
