What's Left

When eternal nightfalls comes,

what can you say matters?

It can't be your wealth,

for that you leave all of it

behind.

It can't be any wordly possesion,

for that those too are

no longer yours.

I like to imagine that it's

our thoughts,

our ideas,

our emotions,

the essence of a being that once was,

that stays behind to carry on.

Of course I won't know for sure

but I'll be a lot happier

if that's the truth.
