What's a Left Shoe Without its Right Match?
The first time we met,
Our hair and clothes were soaking wet
From the usual April showers,
the same rain that brought May flowers.
A blossoming connection sparked,
Our path of true love began- pure and unmarked.
Our eyes met, our personalities clicked,
No hesitation was noticed,
We were both so focused
On the bodies standing in front of one another
Because we knew we wanted each other.
Months passed by,
and we saw how time flies
when you’re having fun.
So we moved in together,
And became the center
Of each other’s worlds.
Because I loved you and you loved me, too.
Our bad habits blended in
With the good ones that have been
Noted
Loathed and
Adored every single day.
Why? Because I love you.
I support your every endeavor
of terrible home improvement ideas,
yet treat them like buried treasure
because I’m the pirate who wants the “booty”
and there’s nothing she won’t do,
if you are the prize of her sea-faring duty.
Why? Because I love you.
I don’t mind picking up your dirty socks
That litter our bedroom floor like thousands of scattered rocks
From our favorite beach in Oregon.
Even if they did smell like the landfill down the road
I still had to keep our humble abode
Semi-pleasant for mom and dad.
Why? Because I Love You.
Just like every shoe has a pair,
It really isn’t fair
That you only hide the left ones around the house,
When we get in a fight and I have to browse
My closet floor in search of its other half when I decide to leave.
I mean, who would go outside with half of a pair of shoes
While the other hides and I choose
To admire that you indeed, actually, made a smart move.
Why do I admire it? Because I love you.
And it appears that you love me, too.
Unlike those horror stories you hear,
Where relationships lack any kind of cheer
And only thrive on manipulation and fear,
Ours is a lucky one,
When all is said and done,
Because in the end,
I’m letting you know this- Friend to friend-
We have each other.
Why? Because we love one another.
Purely and Endlessly,
The way love should always be.
