What's In The Middle
Stuck in the middle of optimistic and depressed
I wonder if life is just one big test
But what’s in between the good and the bad?
I wonder if it’s the things I could have
“What does she mean by that?” you might think
It’s not that confusing so don’t overthink
It’s that the possibilities in life are all in the middle
And what you can or can’t do is like a really good riddle
You choose your actions but you don’t choose fate
You can somewhat choose your path in life and what’s on your plate
But what about the people who don’t have a way
To do what they want and they don’t have a say
We grow up in another persons eyes
How they want you to live and how they want you to die
When is society ever going to care
That the system we live in is never going to be fair
They say “we all have the same chances of making it”, sure…
But that child in a home with drugs and abuse is not too sure
Born into poverty, we were born to be strong
And the kids who were set up with no worries get to just move along
But how come some of us from the “hood” make something of ourselves
And some of us end up 8 ft under or ashes sitting on a shelf
It’s hard to determine why this happens or how
But the 10 year olds who have no hope, need to know now
It’s what’s in the middle, like I said before
Not what’s in our past, but what lies in store
That middle is where we’ll find our passion
Whether is becoming a mechanic, teacher, store owner or even designing some fashion
And yes for some of us it is definitely harder
But that just shows the world that we are definitely smarter
And we have been through lots of trauma and pain
So it’s not what we’ve been through, it’s what we will gain
That hurt in our hearts will make us better, they’ll see
We’ll be the mothers and fathers that we needed our parents to be
And I’ve known these ideas for a while
A year ago when I first seen my daughter smile
You can choose to make this life not as tough
By noticing faith, love, and all the little stuff
So, again, what’s in the middle of all this insanity?
It’s Hope, and it’s what lets us realize the humanity
