What's Right in a World of Wrongs?

He tells me that natural is beautiful,

He says no make up is the best make up,

But then he tells me to be obsessed with looking like other girls and wishing to be other girls,

He tells me that having my own style is cool,

But, he tells me that if it looks to eccentric, it’s weird,

He tells me that I am amazing just the way I am,

But then he tells me that to be attractive, I have to wear less and tight clothing,

And then he tells me that if I don’t pull it off, I’ll dress too provocative,

He tells me to go on social networks and obsess over what I see that I don’t have,

He tells me that a flat stomach with a huge behind and perfect chest is what will make me worthy,

He tells me that my hair is ugly short and that short hair is for men,

He tells me that if I have short hair, my only option is a weave, but a weave is gross and makes me fake,

He tells me that my mixed hair is my only good quality and it’s the only reason people pay attention to me,

He tells me that in order to get a guy’s attention, I have to act and dress a certain way,

He tells me I can’t be myself and I have to be obsessed with having a relationship because everyone else is in one,

He tells me that I have to dance a certain way, that twerking is cute,

He tells me that boys are only about one thing, but little does he know it’s his fault because he told them that’s what they have to be about,

He tells me that the only way to get what I want in life is to depend on my female body,

He tells me that my life is supposed to mirror what I see on TV,

He tells me that I have to be perfect, and if I’m not what’s the point of life.

He goes by the name Society and he doesn’t know that I’m deaf to his commands.

I cannot hear shoving me in my back, and spitting in my face, telling me that I’m doing everything wrong, wrong, wrong.

Wrong.

Wrong.

Wrong… right?

Right.

I am doing everything right.

Everything that has made me ME is right.

My out of control curly hair, my goofy personality, my flat-a** chest is all RIGHT because I am created this way by God’s paintbrush.

Everything about me is what makes me ME.

I am ME, I am nobody else, and everything I am and I’m about is right.

I am deaf to Society and anyone who tells me otherwise.
