What's a rose without its thorns?
What's a rose without its thorns?
Dont tempt me to a lie so blatant
I'm pulled in...
Bring it back, to the bottom of the grove
Where all those dead flowers lie
We sang there in my mind,
Held hands and giggled about good times that never happened
You have to know that we eat what we wish we were...
And so I ate all your love and failed to be what you longed
Cracks in the glass, so many lost chances
I better find your heart, before nightfall
You said that rose had to shine,
but nothing comes without thorns
Wilting flower, times ticking
I stood right outside that field
Where we hummed about our dreams and laughed at lies
I didn't face you those days, maybe you should've known,
I wasn't the petals but a prickly stem coveting a hand to hold
I wish you'd come down here with me, where things are darker and cold
We could hold each other in the forever night of this cove
We don't need the moon tonight, our eyes shine enough
Will you see the wish I whispered if you stare?
Will you hear the mourning of a life I haven't lived?
If I gave you wine, would you drink it and trust me that it isn't blood?
I could tell you that's the love you longed for, the remains of your heart that I long ago ate
How tightly will you hold that thorn now, lodged in your lungs
That would be your promise
I'd need to keep your eyes and soul,
and I could give you my hand and rib but never my mind
Promise me your life,
and I just might show you,
the treasure so deeply embedded in this cove
