Mindless and attached
Is what I’m not.
Nauseous with a headache
Am I dying?
Oh, dehydrated.
The derivative of cosine?
Oh, negative sine.
Is that an eagle?
No, a peregrine.
Mindless, no.
Thinking about Zika.
Thinking about deforestation.
About inequality.
About coal.
Thinking.
Out loud?
If we were allowed.
Attached, definitely.
Adulthood meant
Staying
Stale
Stagnant
New was nothing.
Adulthood means
Being young,
Being adaptable,
Being a sponge
Without drying.
But we’re just obsessed with our phones.
Aren’t we?
