When Did Your Heart Go Missing?

One day you wake up; broken, fragile, defeated. And it's all because of them. They broke you into pieces and stole the best of them.
They crumbled your self-esteem and self-worth simultaneously for years.
But, one day, you wake up; completely numb to any and all feelings. That's when your heart has gone missing.
You try to say it's missing in action, but how could that be true when the love it should hold has been absent for so long?
You reach the point of no return; the point when you lose your humanity, your means of survival.
Your whole life feels like an arm after it's gone numb; languid, dull, nothing.
But the highlight of a missing heart, is that it gets to be found.
                                   •••
One day you wake up; no emotions, no motivation, as always.
But there's something different about this particular day; the air or maybe there's a slight chance of rain that wasn't in the forecast this morning.
Nevertheless, you get dressed, brush your teeth, wrap your hair in your usual too-depressed-to-try hairstyle.
You've almost finished your daily walk to school when you get hit by a person who's running more late than you are.
You let out an agitated sigh as you bend down to pick up your books from the cement.
Then you hear the words "I'm incredibly sorry, let me help!" come out of a soft, dimpled smile.
As you get a good look at the galaxy that is those hazel-green eyes, he rushes away promising to make it up to you another day.
And in that moment, all the emotionless blur changes to butterflies and a familiar smile that's been vacant for the past 8 months.
In that moment, the mysterious almost-happy image of "another day" brings a pounding heartbeat to the left side of your chest.
And, almost without notice, that freckle-faced stranger found your missing heart and placed it back beneath your rib cage with ease.
As if you were just two souls that were made to collide with one another.
