When Growing Up
Many said 21 is when you grow up
Others say 18
When really for me was 16
As I watch over my brother, nieces and nephews
Crying out for food and fun, until curfew
I looked after them day and night
Until either, parents showed up
Or when they wake up.
I didn't go out
I didn't shout
Instead I was like a stay at home Mom
Looking out for all
As the parents went to work in the fields or shops
I stayed home to clean and mop
I then understood responsibility and maturity.
I knew my part would help others more
For me to stay than leave.
Until I was 22
And left for school
Going to leave and learn
To Grow and show
Who I can be
And follow my dream.
