When I apologize

When I apologize to you

The words spilling from lips

are not a testament to never again attempting

what sins I have committed

They are not a false prophet

to which I expect you to worship

and to hold so near and dear

The remorse I tear out of my throat

is not anything you should put faith in

and it is not anything worth merit

The penitence I lay as offering

is nothing more than self-condemnation

and the sorrow is not for my crimes, but for existing

The contrition that flows through me

of which I lay at your feet

is nothing but me regretting all that lies in my reflection

I will not leave you with empty prayers

and even emptier apologies

I am geuinely sorry

but mostly for living
