When I Grow Up
Mommy, I wanna be Beyonce when I grow up.
I want to be famous, a really big star.
Little did I know, that’s not who we are.
But a young girl can dream,
Think of anything.
What else is there to do besides fantasize behind a screen?
Mommy, I wanna be like you when I grow up.
I want to be a provider, my families’ anchor.
Little did I know, I never really did thank her.
But a preteen can dream,
Think of anything.
What else is there to do besides fantasize behind a screen?
Mommy, I just want to be myself when I grow up.
I want to be me and I mean truly me.
Little do you know, this me determines her own reality.
I don’t want to be someone else,
I will decide my own path.
Because it’s easy to be a follower
But you taught me to be something greater.
I will continue to dream,
think of anything.
The only difference now is that I am the one in control.
