When I knew I was growing up

I sat in bed and looked at the clock that read midnight.
This feeling isn’t surprising because it’s one I welcome every night.
I open the door every time I hear it knocking.
It wraps me with arms of sadness.
It keeps me up all night thinking about the memories.
The floor is lava, drinking from the water hose, and Saturday night cartoons.
Tears start to flow and how I wish I could go back.
In that moment I realized how many years have gone by and I had to make a decision.
I kicked out my old friend that embraced me with sadness, forcing me to dwell on my past.
I let go of nostalgia and embraced adulthood.
