When I Look in the Mirror
What I See in the Mirror
When I look in the mirror, I see myself,
Hallow girl decked out in personality,
A silky, a strawberry, a stripper...
Music makes danger irrelevant.
Am I floundering, a wild child lost in silence,
A comedian, a celebrity DJ, a chandelier...
When I look in the mirror, I see a stranger,
A happy bubble bee buzzing over a concrete world,
A lemon smeared with black ink given wings.
I can fly, or at least I could learn to fly, without strings.
A little tea-cup or a tottering tower,
All locks and keys growing flavorful flowers.
When I look in the mirror, I see a friend,
Who points back at me with teasing smiles,
Who runs across wide open seashores
Making crowns with selfless seaweed
And cities with peaceable pebbles -
She is a lotus, a lighter, a level...
When I look in the mirror, I see myself,
A bird, a billion building blocks, a ballerina...
I stand atop a New York roof and cast my fishing line
Beyond the subway stops to where the colors can combine
Just a person really, but who’s to say that I am not
An albatross, an ambassador, or perhaps an astronaut...
