when I look at you, I am screaming
i have a companion, but he is a dog. his name is not spot or charlie, it is not ironically garfield or inherently snoopy. he does not need a name because he responds to my voice. not an encouragement if identity-entitlement. I like to take my dog with me, wherever i go, but people these days have become quite disconcerted over his presence. park rangers tell me to keep him out because he makes noise, restaurants say he attracts filth, most landlords say that he is filth, and now city council is saying he is too obstructive for sidewalks. he may cause accidents between other pedestrians’ traffic. i still take my dog with me wherever i go, but i must carry him in my arms or on my back, like a stuffed fox. if I had a name for my dog maybe it would be Id.
