When I see you

Before you,

He made my voice shake and my bones ache

Before you,

He extinguished the fire in my eyes, blocked out the sunshine of my life

Before you,

I feared I would marry him, that this would be my life of strife.

And then you came,

Cleaning the wretched smoke that clouded my eyes

Bringing together the pieces of who I used to be

And then you came,

Teaching me the ways of love, respect, and care,

Showing me the true meaning of love, when the weight of my soul was too much to bear

And then you came,

In a sweeping flash, and I didn't know I was in love

Only because,

I did not know what love truly was

Only because,

You were the only one I learned to trust

You ignited the flame and washed away all the rust

The rusted mechanical means of my old and heavy heart

Only because,

You took the time to reassemble it after he broke it apart

Now this cold machine purrs like a kitten

Even though she has suffered and should still be bedridden

Only because,

You taught me to love again.
