When I think of you...

When I think of you, I think of butterflies
9002 on every brick I can reach
When I think of you, I think of paint
Blue and red and green and peach.
I think of flowers and not quite straight angles
As I try to trace a house that’s not there!
You made jokes when I messed up
So I knew you didn’t care.

When I think of you, I think of hugs
You always gave just the right amount
When I think of you, I think of copies
And staying up late just to hang out
I think of singing just to be singing
All of our favorite songs.
I think of driving to St. Mary’s County,
The best trip ever…Mom.

When I think of you, I don’t have to think
You just sorta stay on my mind.
When I think of you, I burst with pride
Because you’re just that one of a kind.
I think of promises broken and promises kept
Laughs shared and tears wept.
I think of good days and bad days
And how you were there…always.
When I think of you, I think of all the times you’ve been exactly what I needed
To keep on believing.
I just wish there was a way I could repay you.

So now as you go off to a place far away
And I can’t be there with you everyday,
Know that anytime you call or email, I’ll be there
Because if there’s one thing I’ve learned from you….
It’s how to care.
