When I Wake

I pull these words past my lips from strings I let them hang from my window while I wait Watching as they dance like sails in the wind You floated down to me and it was effortless Every move you made was caught in the light And when I touched it felt like fire on my skin I woke up buried in the sand of an hourglass The taste of my tears bitter on my tongue Your voice echoes off the walls of my heart I collected the lies he told and kept them safe Slipped them underneath my pillow at night To remind me not to trust him when I wake
