When I Was Younger

When I was younger

There was no blood, only jelly

That poured out of sandwiches without crust and little peanut butter

A time when I believed I could control the wind

“And now, no no, just kidding….. Now! Yes, I knew it!”

When That’s So Raven was my hero and hot Cheetos were accompanied with it

And when I closed my eyes at night looking at the street lamp outside

I believed the light rays to be aliens

Where I was embarrassed to still be sleeping with Baby

Ashamed I brought her to school for comfort

Where making friends was so much easier

And my face didn’t turn red at any interaction with anyone

A time when I had friends down the street to pick sweet peas with

And play with chickens

When I romanticized high school and any form of freedom

“I want to be a cool girl”

A time when I would stay up for hours reading the warrior series

When I would make pizza with my dad and play with polly pockets

And climb in bed with him after nightmares

And in the morning came Emma and Logan sandwiches that ended in us squeezed all tight together giggling

I remember a simple time
