When It Falls
In the still of the night, when not a soul has stirred
Resounding and beckoning a cry can be heard
It’s riddled with sadness, and for vengeance it reaps
From its deathbed it crawls, it is dragged, and it creeps
The darkness surrounds us and consumes all in its path
It claws; it gnaws, and draws blood with its wrath
It breaks all logic till there’s no reason to see
And it won’t care who it hurts, it’ll bring the world to its knees
We’ll fear our neighbors, our sisters, and our dearest mothers
And suspect the utmost treachery from our fathers and brothers
Fires erupt and the Earth’s core shall rumble
The notorious plague will make the strongest morals crumble
And what is morality? Have we already forgotten?
What it is not to scheme or be heinously plotting?
What is it to love? To hate? Or are they one and the same?
To share and to care without ulterior aim?
Yet in the bottomless pit that was once the sky
And at the end of the tunnel in which time passes by
Through the grime, the muck, and the massive pains no one can cope
There is a flickering light that is known as hope
No matter how weakened its ember will smolder
It will enthrall and enchant the eyes of its beholder
Fill them with warmth to ease their woes
Use happiness to replace the aches and sorrows
Enclosed in grunge and superfluous with strife
Though it coughs and it sputters it still holds life
With the proper guidance it’ll grow and touch the hearts of all
And maybe, just maybe, save this kingdom when it falls
