When I’m Gone

When I’m gone don’t look for me in the sunset,

I won’t try to take away the idea of its beauty but it’s not for me.

Look for me in the feeling of your first coffee or tea of the day,

Look for me when you decide to take a break and drive home the long way.

Look for me in the stars when the moon looks like a cartoon cat’s grin,

Look for me when you laugh at your own joke so hard you can barely breathe to tell it again.

I’ll be there when you’re watching movies alone,

When it’s the middle of the night and the house doesn’t feel like home.

I’ll be making extra fluffy blankets come out of the dryer for cuddles,

Making every cake taste sweeter and every drink hit harder.

I’ve never seen myself in the sunset,

I’ll be in the little moments not meant for pictures.
