When Lead Flies

(Rhythmically similar to "A Poem on the Underground Wall" by Simon and Garfunkel)

All our words begin beguiling
Before they may be found reviling
And for all our sweet and sadly smiling
There's behind our words a gross defiling
Of what may be the intent

What we get when words of greeting
Have our minds their meanings meeting
Becomes a curious self defeating
Mindless, goaty sheepish bleating
Of information impertinent

The innocuousness of gossiped lies
Soon become the lead that flies
Maliciously towards our neighbours
Mitigating our behaviours
Of kindness as a human

When lead flies forth from one man's lip
Too soon is it returned the clip
Of angry, heated shoutings thrown
From man's selfish illusioned throne
