When One Cares Too Much

Some say I don’t do enough, That I lie around and sleep all day. I just feel it rather tough, When others must watch their cats fade away. To help a friend smile, I bought a plush, And for another’s birthday, Chocolate was the thing. Both of whom were forced to smile and blush, Overwhelming happiness such giving brought. At the carnival, many prizes I did win, Even others were asking for my expertise, At first, I was winning toys for others out my pocket But their smiles and gratitude made it hard to stop. Now I may have not had anyone I could call “my girl”, But I have sent many a flower or rose on special occasions, I even spent part of my pay check on several occasions as a surprise, My mom’s hard work and sacrifice wouldn’t go unnoticed. But all the expenses took their toll, With health and money swiftly disappearing, All my giving may be good for my soul, But a little less hard I should have tried.
