WHEN PETALS LAST IN THE DOOR JAMB HELD

When petals last in the door jamb held,
My bosom fast in her heartbeat swelled.
With raptured split of a bolt torn sky.
Then kneeling down, ‘neath a rose was I.

While looking out in the dark to hide;
From beaming light of a Moon who climbed,
Through thickened day shone cares away.
Then floating high on the ethers lite,

While crouching low from the beaming bright.
This heartbeat mine to the marching drum.
Whose cadence hard to the driving nite,
Was pounding out to the witness fright.

By trembling hand on a long-stem tight.
Then raising thorn past the petals height.
In secret Moon of a restless nite;
I grafted stem in the doorjamb crease,

With tender skill and softened ease.
Then gazing up from a low stooped poise,
And raising up to erected height,
In flirted flit, I took to flight.
