When she was 17 she realizedshe

When she was 17 she realized

she wanted to be free

and live a bohemian life

like on Tumblr

and old record covers.

She wanted the piercings

and the soundtrack

and the waves of rebellion

that she thought

would give her liberty.

She struggled to be different.

Unique.

She followed the formulas

and dressed the part.

Only to feel more trapped.

When she was 18 she realized

all freedom takes

is the act of letting go

and allowing yourself to change.

She realized she could do anything she chose

and wear anything she liked

and listen to anything that made her happy.

And none of that would change her freedom

because she hadn't realized

that freedom

is not a trend.
