When the street lights turn

When the street lights turn on

I feel like I hold so much power

seeing something when the rest of the world was fawn

blinking for what seemed like hours

gapes of inviting darkness

swallowing you after seconds of sublime light

Then the light floods through again
the words of those before me
guiding me through each space of ample darkness
