When they come home from work

When they come home from work

The work isn’t over

It’s piled up

Dripping from the ceilings

Dripping from their children

Dripping from life

When they comes home from work

They holds us

They feed us

They checks up on everyone

Except themselves

They work 49 hours a week

And that is just the work they do at the hospital

Not the tireless effort they put in at home

The effort they put into us

They are my parents

Two physicians

The woman who immigrated to America almost 20 years

The man who immigrated when he was just a child

The two that got married when my father was only in residency

The two that could barely make rent and lived paycheck to paycheck

Now they were comfortable

Now they were both doctors

But their work ethic never wavered

These two are the most selfless I know

The person I aspire to be

Is the person they both are
