When you are aged 18

Dear me, aged 12,

When you are aged eighteen

So much will have changed

When you are aged eighteen

Fear will no longer keep you chained

There's a reason why

You aren't like other girls

There's a reason why

Your hair falls into curls

There's a reason why

You can't get out of bed

There's a reason why

You hear those voices in your head

There's a reason why

You'd rather be alone

There's a reason why

Nothing feels like home

You have so many questions

I know, because I did

You have so many questions

I know because I do

When you grow up

You will still be afraid

When you grow up

You will still be encaged

But, my friend

It’s not over yet

There's so many things to see

It’s not over yet

It gets better every day

I promise that it does

It gets better every day

And I know that because

When you are aged eighteen

You’ll be stronger already

When you are aged eighteen

You will be clean already

When you are aged eighteen

There will be help on the way

When you are aged eighteen

You will want to see every day

I cannot say things will be great

When you are aged eighteen

I cannot say that we will make it

When you are aged eighteen

But I can say

When you are aged eighteen

There is so much more hope

When you are aged eighteen.

  With respect,18 year old you
