When You Look Back

Because I love you, I must cause you pain.

You look at me with a tear-stained face, and gleaming eyes

Your lip quivers and your throat is choking back a sob.

You don't understand, you don't get it

But you must.

I must let you go in order for you to grow.

Challenges will stand tall in your path and I cannot fight them for you.

I must push you away so you will be pulled towards opportunities.

Yes, I just want success for you

and I knew it wouldn't be easy.

You don't know that now, but you will someday.

On that day you'll look back and you'll remember this;

it'll click inside of your thoughts and once again you will cry

but not out of sadness

or misunderstanding

or pain.

But out of gratitude

and relief.

You will see your life and it will all be worth it.

Those long hours,

those impossible obstacles,

the monsters that bared their teeth,

you fought and came out the victor.

The success was synonymous to happiness.

Because I love you, I want you to be happy.
