Where Am I From?
I am from wind,
Blowing as I move so gracefully.
I am from dance,
Where my heart can soar and dreams come true.
Where words can’t express who I am.
Where an empty studio and music is all I need to live.
My great-grandmother danced.
She was pigeon toed like me,
Causing her to not be able to dance anymore.
She is the reason I try so hard to over come my “disability.”
I am from the stage,
Where I can sing and dance and act with all eyes on me.
Where my family comes to enjoy my entertainment and watch me perform.
I am from music,
The best expression of life, love, pain and all emotion.
Where I learned a foreign language.
Where I learned about art.
I am from the trees,
Where I camp and my imagination flies free.
I am from silliness,
Singing “1985” with my “sister.”
I am from the south,
Heather from far and Eric near.
I am from pain and heartache and loss.
The pain from a back injury that almost ruined everything for me.
The heartache of divorced parents always fighting.
The loss of my grandfather, “Papaw,”
Who was teaching me to play guitar.
I am from love and hate,
From the days of dread and the days of longing.
I am from the “I love you’s”
From the “It’ll be okay’s”
I am from science,
From the ocean to the stars and underground.
I am from science fiction,
Where fun stories are made up with science.
Where things of time travel, space travel, and supernatural phenomena happen.
I am from the world of fantasy.
Where elves and dwarves and wizards and dragons all thrive.
Where I can do anything,
Be anyone.
I am from tears,
Shed from the things that matter and things that don’t.
Where t.v. shows and movies reach a deep place inside me.
From the nights I cry myself to sleep.
I am from laughter,
From the memories made singing “Jingle Bells” at Christmas.
From trying to remember other songs and messing them up.
I am from Hope,
The hope that life could get better in the times of tragedy.
The hope that life will stay amazing in the times of fun.
The hope that I can hold on tight enough to the roller coaster that is life.
