Where Am I From?
I'm from the womb of a strong black woman.
I'm from the non-existent loins of a man I've never seen.
I have inherited strength.
I am strong.
I am from the chains of oppression, poverty, and not always having more or enough.
I am from the broken down school house.
I am from the destroyed hopes of acceptance.
I am different and unique.
I am able to make due.
I am from the darkest of people.
I am from those who are labeled as "ghetto" and "ignorant".
However, I am not dumb or improper.
I can speak with the best.
I can learn with the smartest.
I am a beautiful young black woman and I will be known.
