Where Are You From?
Nikki Marie, Nikki Marie where are you from?
I am from going back and forth to mom to dad
with my older brother and blanket in my right hand
I am from playing and swimming with my mom
but with my dad not knowing but just going along
I’m not a kid from Cats in the Cradle
Just a kid stuck between two tables
I am from a house that took a major detour
and always turning to my mentor
I am from seeing my mom and older brother at their low
and watching the court dates go by slow
I am from living in hotel rooms and just waiting
as we wait for him to leave so we can stop hating
I am from trying to recover from a horrible decade
and just trying to learn to let it fade
I am from always being by my grandpa side
with all of his laughter and pride
I am from hearing about my grandpas life
to watching him go in a blink of an eye
I am from endless rolling hills
with very high bills
I am from very hot and dry weather
but sometimes the cold was better
I am from a city where I had to say good-bye
as I headed to my new home and enjoyed the ride
Now I am from a beautiful town
feeling blessed everyday as I look around
I am from hiking, Kayaking, and snowy days
and with this change it has healed my family in many ways
So if life took another turn
and I ended up on an island with only one yearn
I would take the one who kept me strong
because wherever my mom is, that's where I belong
