Where Did The Time Go?

Dear Hunter,

Last thing I knew you and I were just kids

Playing in the sandbox

Days full of endless sunshine

No clouds in sight

It feels like I only closed my eyes for a second

But now so many days have gone by

You went away

And now it’s like I live in cloudy days

Water balloon fights in your front yard

Climbing the trees in mine

Laughter never ceasing

Our faces red from the burning sun

Hiding within my darkened room

I can’t bear to see those empty yards

Remembering that rainy day

When I said my final words to you

Trips to the playground

Spinning on the tire swing until we were sick

Crazy plans to get revenge

On those who hurt you so badly

But we never got the chance

They took you away from me

I can still see your gravestone in my head

And I refuse to go back

Play wrestling in the basement

Weekly phone calls when we were apart

Childhood innocence saving our souls

From the darkness that surrounded us both

Now that purity has gone

You are dead by your own hands

And I am left here with blood tainted skin

Because I didn’t save you

I'm so sorry I would give everything

If it just meant I could see you once more

But that won't happen I know it's true

So I guess this is it my friend

Goodbye, I will always miss you

Love,

Jess
