"where everybody belongs"

living in the middle

of a melting pot

this is where everybody belongs

i never understood

i hung back in the shadows

who you never hear

talking at the table

someone you never knew

yet i am all of you

we’re broken but

can’t show it to them

gotta keep saying that

it’s all perfect

that girl slumped over

her phone

hair a mess but beautiful

scrolling through other people’s

lives

too caught up to live her own

I can’t see her face

but I know she’s smiling

secretly

one text would make the day

even if it’s a joke

cause i’ll always be lonely

at homecoming

who cares to remember

when i come home cause

it’s late and there’s work

due tomorrow, all i’ve got’s a

blank page

waiting for an idea and

i wonder

what fun they must be having

together

where everybody belongs.
