Where Have We Gotten?
Okay, fine! I'll admit it!
I ran away, but also stayed
I was scared, but tried to be brave
I was trying to find myself
In a world that looked at me
And told me to cry
Told me that I shouldn't be alive
A world that killed my pride
And told me to hide
To keep the real me inside
An abusive relationship with everyone around
Like I was some disappointment and their clown
Because they believed the world, too
And took initiative to force that "religion" upon me as some sorrt of cue.
I hated that!
I hated the fact
That it was implied
That I wasn't good enough
A world that selects people
And tell them they're better than me
And now they're cuffed!
Like how I used to be
But now I see
And the world? Oh, it hates me!
Now that I can see through the lies?
No that I can see through the pain?
Now that I came from behind the bushes?
And I can actually see the sunrise instead of the rain?
I feel strong inside
But, at first
The world loved me!
Because I gave into it
Listened to the beautiful words and blew it
For myself
Those years lost, I can't get back!
Those days spent crying and lying to myself
Hoping and saying, "Maybe, just maybe when I get older...some day"
A struck from the world's punch
Breaking my every bone
And leaving me out there alone?
I said, "Screw /it!"
Because, who are you?
The sad part is:
We all have problems
But, because of division
Amongst every race
And the competition
Of trying to impress
Increasing the stress
Of everyone. Of time.
We've left our hearts and spirit man behind
I don't care that I am Black!
Or that my hair isn't down my back
I don't care that I'm not "light skin"
Nor that you've left me to defend
Myself or the next
But for now? I can just rest.
I'm not mad
But rather trying to save you from all of the hatred and stress that I've had
Because it causes confusion in the world.
And makes it sad
Where have...we've gotten?
Slavery?
The Great Depression?
Harry Truman desegretating the army?
Our rights!
America and humans "leaving the strife"?
But have they?
And have we've gotten anywhere within all of these decades?
Have we?
