Where the Heart Isn't
I come home from
my freshman year
of college
to the town that
I grew up in.
I spend the summer
driving by
the same houses,
the same restaurants,
the same schools.
These places all give me
a feeling in my chest
akin to the one
that I get when
I hear a loud noise, unexpectedly.
This is the town I grew up in.
But it is not home anymore.
