Where hearts come alive
So many words, thoughts, images: attack of information
Racing in the mind like cars, colours, noise ahh unwanted commotion.
Where is the old tale of the past, long lost friend: solitude
I need to snap out of this Oh Lord! this engulfing whirlpool.
I am just a body, sitting in the now, heart, mind absent
a beating heart keeping this casket alive for the present;
but the soul is dying as it walks amongst the dead
thinking them to be alive, and the alive to be dead.
What is life? to feel a thrill? The rush of adrenaline ?
only to feel dead once more, is this really living?
Surely there is more to life than just...wasting
Wasting moments, wasting time, me just wasting ..
What is this I hear? Where is this gathering?
In which hearts come alive and start growing and blooming.
Like how the parched earth aches for the sky when hit by a drought,
"just one drop of rain!" it cries and shouts.
The heart begins to get hopeful so I put the noise on pause,
Goodbye commotion, no more wars
Between myself and my mind, as though two separate things
I cannot have you an internal enemy, as one we will start living.
I start searching around me, you can tell by the eyes.
We can put on fake smiles, laugh, but the eyes tell no lies.
I look to the top in society, they look like they have everything
Forever having fun, best clothes, best rides, always smiling.
But behind closed doors they are like you and I
Trying to blot out the emptiness, trying to make it to the night.
Where they hope to switch off and just not feel
a break from reality, just wanting a good sleep.
Tossing and turning on the most luxurious of beds
Unable to just sleep so are forced to take meds.
Never really feeling refreshed upon awakening
Laying there like a corpse, for rest they are aching.
And then each Saturday of every month I began to realise
people have been coming from all walks of life.
To the old building down the street which always seems to be humming
as people keep on coming, keep on coming and coming.
Cars line the streets, coaches do drop offs what's happening?
Who are all these people and why are they gathering?
One Saturday, without thinking I followed them too.
I dressed like them, kept my head down and was ushered in too.
For some reason I was so excited, the air was brimming
I sat in the row, and then my eyes started brimming.
Crying?!
I do not cry! What is this water?
"Is everything ok my dear daughter?"
I look up to see a very kind face
I nod hastily and plaster a smile on my face.
I was collecting myself when the talk begins
Then my heart all of a sudden bursts, gushing forth springs.
Throughout, numb feet, dried out cried out eyes
Yet a strange feeling bubbling within, I'm feeling alive..
Towards the end, feeling light, as i watched from afar,
Who is everyone queuing up to meet, a shining star?
The Lords beloved servants so demure, with kind eyes
They meet everyone with warmth and allow them to cry.
They inquire about each person with concern, remembering every detail
Who this face is, where are they from, what is their pain and heartache.
Everyone seems to leave looking lighter
Even the moon shies away, as their faces are brighter.
My heart starts to now feel like a heart, not a dark ball of mess.
The speakers words are still echoing, "those whom God loves, He tests.
He brought you here because He's pulling you to Him
our doors are open, our hearts are open so welcome in!"
From that day onwards, all my minds clatter
Vanished,
as now nothing else matters.
You oh Lord have now become my only goal
with the love and guidance of Your beloved ones, you are filling the hole
Of emptiness in my heart, now I am becoming whole
I’ve begun the journey of nourishing my soul.
I can now sit on a park bench and watch the leaf fall
With calmness in the mind, I follow it to the floor.
So simply it sways and swirls in the wind
As if commencing for me
my new beginning.
