Where I grew from

I am from where there are dirty boots pilled in the corner

From the treehouse, my safe place, and where books were my company

I am from the green land of abundant beauty and where street smarts were better sought after

I am from the dirt beneath Magnolia Ave whose purpose was to provide a foundation that could fruit dreams and see them grow

I am from the cobija del caballo that kept me warm and for the molcajete that took salsa to the next level

From Sergio and Martha

I am from the sweat of hard work and unconditional love and from the pride of being Oaxacan

and a great sense of humor

I am from the God who is everything and anything I need

I am from Comonfort and Lopez

From the spices and herbs

From dreams that lead to one goal … a better life and from the courage to come to the U.S

Together we all laugh in front of the home that saw us grow

I am from the those moments of loss, happiness, sadness, laughter, peace, battles and where there is always dirty boots pilled in the corner
