Where I'm From

Where I'm From

I am from a small town,

from a place where everyone knows one another.

I am from a border town

in which Spanglish is usually spoken.

I come from many different places

and I am going to many more.

“Sana, sana colita de rana, si no sanas hoy, sanaras mañana”

is a song that will always stay on my mind.

My parents always sang it to me every

time I would have a small accident or injury.

I am from a home where the smell of

Mexican food is always around.

I am from a place where tacos, tamales,

and tortillas are the best parts of a meal.

I am from a place where on every birthday or holiday,

a piñata never fails to be there.

I am from a place where a “Dios te bendiga” is always said

to you when leaving to a place or just going somewhere.

From a place where a Quinceañera is the

best thing any fifteen year old girl could have.

I am from a place where most people

I know speak Spanish.

From a place where “Baby Goat” or “Risitas”

are what some people call me.

From a place where the support of family

and friends never fails when you need it.

From a place that is humble

but love is always there.

From Angelica’s and Rafael’s seeds from

the tree that was planted almost eighteen years ago.

From the ranch my grandparents live on.

From the Mexican heritage that was handed

down to me by my ancestors.

From the moments I will never forget,

whether they were good or bad.

I am the example of Jesse and Maxi,

my two little bothers that I love so much.
