Where I'm From

Location

I’m from a family of a small town population

Where there is immense love everywhere you look

I’m from a family where nobody is perfect

Lessons taught by mom and dad about how hard life is

I’m from a family who can never stay mad at each other

I’m from a mom who knows how to cook ribs

Where the only sound is the clinking of silverware

I’m from corn popping in your mouth

And meat slowly disintegrating between each bite

I’m from the option of choosing what to eat and when to eat

I’m from a neighborhood so small you can barely locate it

Where all the houses are in sight

I’m from kids laughing and kids screaming

And the constant hum of a lawnmower

I’m from a neighbor who is willing to chop wood to help out

I’m from a yard piled high with trinkets

Where campfire smoke wraps you up tight

I’m from birds slimly dodging your head

And nature speaking to you from all around

I’m from an RV blatantly parked in the driveway

I’m from a house containing childhood memories beyond belief

Photo albums opened up to the exuberant grins

I’m from the laughter from home videos

And memories engraved in the minds

I’m from keepsakes shouting out old stories

I’m from my grandparents’ farm in Wisconsin

Where bobbing for apples is a must

I’m from up north in the middle of the woods

Where I first witnessed nature transforming

I’m from a cabin with an elongated zip line to ride
