Where I'm From

Where I’m From
 By: Heidi Gable

I am from broken spouses.
From split to whole.
I am from packing every week
To switch houses.
We are not too green,
We survive in the middle.
I am from bruised knees and basketball shorts
To barbies and dresses.
I am from junk food to nothing but veggies.

I am from feast.
From Rick and Robin.
I am from the always do your best,
And don’t you ever give-up.
From the hugs and extra kisses.
I am from celebrating two holidays
While others only celebrate one.
I am from the cross that is hung and the
Commandments we should live by.

I am from The Brady Bunch,
From names being mixed up,
There’s too many to count.
I am from sit down dinners and family movies.
From cracking jokes at the dinner table,
I am from the tears dribbling down our faces while
We talk about memories.
Now I realize who I am
All because of where I am from.

With great thanks to George Ella Lyon
