Where I'm From
I am from diversity,
Two worlds collided into one.
I am derived from the sweat and tears.
Switching from run down leaking faucets,
To a sanctuary to call my own.
I am from a place with income from two and a half ghosts.
The Providers.
A life with no higher figure,
But one I shall be grateful for.
I am from ashes.
From sirens and smoky air.
I’m from news that should dare be heard by my worst enemy.
Hotel Rooms.
Christmas with no presents.
I’m from rebuilt walls that quench my grieve,
And the puppy that no longer barks.
The sclera and retina of my own observe a blessed family.
I’m from continuous pain and suffering.
From constant signatures of approval following different examiners.
From the IV’s that drip slowly into my bloodstream.
Count to ten backwards, count the scars.
Deprivation of normalcy, anguish to be like everybody else.
Anatomically. Oh the dream.
To awaken without the dependency of dragging my character across the floor.
My body fights its own wellness.
Yet,
Shoulders high, chin up.
“Soon it will all be over,” she says
Soon it will all be over.
I am a believer.
An open minded, born-again thinker.
I am a girl who wanders down the road not taken,
And ventures amongst the path that is fair warned.
I am an innovator,
Creative thinker,
Family member,
And passionate food lover.
I am, me.
