Where I'm From
I’m from a land
full of yes sir no sir.
From a land
full of yes mam no mam.
I’m from a land
where we were told
“rub some dirt in it”
and sometimes we took it seriously
I’m from a land
where if your mother
calls you by first and middle name,
run like the wind.
I’m from a land
where we hold the door for elders
and respect our brother
and sisters.
I’m from a land
of singing and acting
I’m from a land
of reading and writing
I’m from a land
a very small land
with a big family
and a few rooms.
I’m from a land
of eight brothers and sisters
I’m from a land
where I am the youngest.
I’ve got Michael
I’ve got Laurie
I’ve got Brandon
I’ve got Justin
I’ve got Joshua
I’ve got Tamara
I’ve got Brianna
and they’ve got me.
I’m from a land
that is all my own
however for my siblings
I have no idea
