Where I'm From
I’m from Las Vegas, Nevada
Walking proof that what happens in Vegas
Gets up and goes to California
I’m from California
Where the Theatre bug got me good
But show business won’t bite
I’m from the West coast
Where climbing trees and sitting on the floor
Is acceptable in public
Where love and sand
Are abundant
Where my mom likes to sit
And pretend to conjure
But never in her kitchen
Where my dad likes to babysit
My two crazy sisters
While doing P90X
And I’m from Texas
Where the air is thick
And way to hot to enjoy
Where my Viking Grandma lives
With her Viking daughter
And my hippie grandfather
Where I did my growing
But not all the way
Where I learned
Home is where the anchor holds
But who needs an anchor
When winds are pushing the sails
I am from ambitions
From “hell yeah” and “go do it”
I am from old, worn down shoes
From hand crafted fairy wings
And Yugio cards
I am from hand-me-down home décor
And antique store smells
I am from the pink roses
And homegrown rosemary
And the wild lavender plants
I am from disorganized holidays
From Cat Stevens and Jack Johnson and Beck and Bob Marley
I am from the campfires on the beach
And Sundays at Great Grandpa Gere’s
From kicking tires and lighting fires
From taking the world by the balls
I’m from Lebanon, Guatemala and Ireland
From Hummus and pizza sandwiches
From hiking Montaña de Oro
From a weekend at Disney Land
From the California winds
And the chills of the Pacific
I am from things made by hand
From roaming the woods in flip-flops
And lounging in the sand
