Where Im From..

I’m from the dirt back roads full of potholes and dust; from JFG, Easton and warm grandmother hugs.

I am from a trailer, times two. From swampy marshes, riverbeds that wind running deep, and a willow that weeps at dawn.

I am from Bradford pears and Evergreen shrubs; pompous grass and old tree stubs.

I’m from Moore’s super table traditions. I’m from big boned Yankees, Tiffany Lynn and Grandpa Lye.

I am from snappy attitudes and the backyard slang. From something called “The Big Bang”

I am from  “Don’t fight for yourself fight for others” and a simple word called no!

I am from Baptist. Part time southern, part time northern, hop scotching churches, and afternoon gatherings.

I am from the northern pizza and wings; from southern cornbread and beans. “Less of the ether” my grandfather says, English and Dutch is the way we were bred.

I am from a New York militiaman. Daniel Holley, 11 children only 3 to survive, 7 generations passed home built with land grant on 72 acres.

I am from the deep rolling mountains, a long dirt road. A holler with the essentials, friends and family, hate and love, drama and serenity. It’s a place with contrasting people, but it’s the place I call home.
