Where I'm From

I am from a pallet

From paint and water

I am from the two story olive green house on the corner of Mexican and American

I am from the giant agave

The great agave, growing bigger with age

Whose long lost its flower

I am from Limón and Sentíes

From Patsy and Raquel

I am from eating lemons and baseball

And from big humble brown eyes

I am from "Gabriela clean up!" And "¿Que haces tonta?"

And from CriCri el grillito cantor on Saturday mornings

I am from sleeping for days

I am from Laredo and Cosamaloapan

Mondongo and lengua

From the time my tio was drunkinly dancing with cacti

I am from the big brilliant smiles that will forever stay in my heart
