Where I'm From
I'm from the wooden swing in my front yard
From the freshly mowed grass that stretches on from the earliest generations
I am through the window to unlock the front door
The pine cones in the backyard
From running the home-made bases
I'm from many hard times
From the smell of cigarettes to air fresheners
I'm from the barefoot races and planting fields
From don't touch this and don't touch that
I am from simple times and life passed on
And kneeling by the bed to pray at night
I'm from my mom's side of the family
From holiday decorated cookies to fried chicken
From fishing with Grandpa
I'm from life that has been broken and patched back together
From the family pictures in the little brown box
I am from these moments
An autumn leaf blown from
Trees by the winds of change
