Where I'm From

I am from worn out clothes and outgrown shoes; From moving around to playing outdoors. I am from country twang to, “Ain’t ain’t a word.” I am from, “Tough it out” and, “Don’t be a baby.” I am from cowgirl boots to rusty nails; From seeing grass for miles to city streets. I am from cow manure and outdoor smells; From jerky burgers and hot dogs. I am from divorce is normal, but abandonment is not. I am from “We knew he was dying, but when he did we all cried.” I am from a single mother working day and night; From a lonely home to, “You have a new dad.” I am from life moves fast to, “Don’t grow up!” From loving one day and hatred the next. I am from everyone is your friend to, “Don’t talk to strangers.” I am from mistakes are ok to a world of regret. I am from love everlasting to, “Love at first sight is fake,” From different opinions are never ok. I am from screaming is normal. I am from worn out clothes and outgrown shoes.
